There Will Be No Discussion of The NFL Today

Posted in music, random on October 14, 2008 by pgleason85

Well that was awful, and that’s all I have to say about that.

Tonight, I focus on the concert I’m attending tonight. I realized that all of the bands I am seeing have released at least one album, if not several, since I last bought anything by them.  So I figured I would check it out, and try to figure out how many songs I will actually have heard before tonight. WHO’S WITH ME!? Hello? Anyone there?

Lets start with Thrice, because, well, I googled them first.  Ah Thrice…the sounds of my senior year of high-school.  I believe I’ve briefly mentioned what happened before a thrice show once here before, so i don’t need to repeat myself. (hint, begins with a “v”, ends in “irginity”)  Those were the days of sweet innocence. I had no credit rating (which is better than bad credit, I’m told).  I was embarking on my journey into adulthood.  Alchohol was still very much illegal (and therefore more fun).  I bought Artist in the Ambulance the day it came out, and it had all the extra cards and notes about each song and crap. I saw them tour off that album twice, in a row (like went with one group of friends one night, another the next) It was awesome, and then came Vheissu.  Despite owning this album, I think I have listened to it three times tops.  It wasn’t actually a bad album, it just wasn’t the Thrice that I had once known.  Now i’m told they’ve released two albums in the last two years with some weird name that is actually one album in four parts and its a concept record (WTF is that?).  Honestly, I’m wagering I’ll know one of the songs they play tonight, two tops.

Now we’ll discuss Alkaline Trio.  Oh please oh please play only old songs? Pretty please? Cause, just being honest, those are your best songs man.  I mean, it was dark, but not OVERLY dark where it felt forced.  It was boozy and brooding, yet extremely catchy and awesome.  Apparently ALK3 just released some new fangled album dealie this past July, so i’m going to wager they’ll play a lot of songs from that one (that is how it goes, right?) My guess is i’ll know two songs (i may have been tipped off by someone who went to the show last night.)

I was reaaalllly into both of those bands at points in my life.  Rise Against, who is apparently the headliner, I was never as in to.  I did like them, just not at the same level.  Saw them at Warped Tour and as openers and stuff, enjoyed what I heard, but didn’t listen to as much as the others.  That said, I really liked the Unraveling and Revolutions per minute.  Siren Songs was good too, but that’s it as far as my rise against experience goes. There other albums appear to be much more popular, so they’ll probably play a lot off of those.  Hey, i’ll know the guitar hero one at least.  And they have a longer set, so I bet i’ll have heard three, if not four, songs! Wow!

Yeah, I didn’t talk much about the Gaslight Anthem cause i’ve only heard the one album, and I’ve only heard it like 4 or 5 times.

So yeah, I’ll know like 10 songs at the absolute most. 10 out of like 50 or so. . .totally worth the price of admission, right?

Last Day Of the Month

Which means I am really busy, so I didn’t get to write up a full post for you.  If you want to talk about last night’s How I Met Your Mother or Heroes, well, click those links!

I also finally got a chance to check out Chuck for the first time since the pilot.  It was actually a pretty enjoyable show, not to mention they used a fucking FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS song during the episode, which earns you billions of points in my book.

So with the lack of a proper post here’s TV On the Radio appearing on Letterman…on a fire escape!  That is fucking AWESOME.

Summertime and The Livin’s Easy

Posted in music, random, rants, that way, which way is the beach on August 15, 2008 by pgleason85

Damn, that is a lazy ass headline.  Well you know what, I can be as lazy as I want with my headlines.  You know why? It’s because I am taking a small vacation to Beach Haven, NJ.

yeah, that was the best picture i could find.  well i found this one, but I’m too lazy to download and resize and it was too big to resize in the window.  I’m lazy and in vacation mode already.  I’m only going down for four days, so i’ll be back in the middle of the week next week, but still. I’m also pretty sure i’m actually staying on that street, but whatever.  The important task I have today is what to listen to on the hours long drive I have tonight.

There’s the option of leaving my iPod on shuffle.  But that is always dangerous and could lead to disaster.  I’m also not sure what kind of time I will have to make a mix, but I can sure try.  Making a night driving mix can be tough.  You don’t want it too high energy or you won’t be able to slip into the zone that you need while driving down the highway.  But you do need some pick me up songs in case you slip too far into the zone and start to doze off.  It’s a very delicate process, one that I’m just not confident that shuffling can handle.

One song that will definitely be on there will be this song:

I’m pretty sure I’ve posted that before, but whatever. Its a great driving song.  It’s fucking about driving.

I’m also somewhat nervous about this.  I haven’t really driven a car any significant distance since like February (i think). Living in the city it becomes unnecessary, so I just never drive.  Last time I drove it was to the ice cream shop near my house in CT, so this is gonna be interesting.  Driving a damn wind sail minivan down the Garden State Parkway for like 3 hours.  Whatever, the beach will be the payoff!

This Blog Has More Influence Than I Realized

Remember yesterday when I complained about my iPod and Pandora and how they werescrewing with me while I tried to listen to some tunes?

Well apparently both are readers of this blog, and have agreed to actually do things correctly. To thank Pandora I provided a link, because that site is fucking awesome (and because I’ll definitely direct huge amounts of traffic there). To thank my ipod…RANDOM SONG TIME!

The Shins – Caring Is Creepy

What? I really liked Garden State. Interestingly enough, this song can come up twice, because I have the Garden State soundtrack as well as The Shins’ album that this song came from. For those of you scoring at home, this is from the album, not the soundtrack.

Green Day – American Idiot
Remember before this album came out and Green Day wasn’t the biggest band in the universe? My friends brother was actually abroad when this came out, and when he came back he asked his brother what was going on in the music world. My friend replied that Green Day was, in fact, the biggest thing in America. His brother thought he was joking.

Sleep Station – Elena

This is from an awesome EP that you (at least used to be able to) download from their website. It was called Von Cosel, which is the creepiest shit ever. Just click that link. ::shudders::

Coheed and Cambria – in Keeping Secrets of the Silent Earth: 3

Coheed is fucking out of this world man. I get so damn confused about what the hell they are singing about. I may have told this anecdote before, but who gives a shit. The first time I saw Coheed was at Warped Tour, and I didn’t have a damn clue what they looked like. The guitarist/singer Claudio was wearing a hat, and during one of the first songs there was a breakdown. He knocked his hat out, and this head of hair popped out. It was insane.

The Smiths – William, It Was Really Nothing

I was given Louder Than Bombs at some point in high school. I enjoyed listening to it, and still do when i’m in the mood (to get depressed). My Freshman year of college for some reason, i kept meeting people that really liked the song, Asleep by the them. I thought it was cool and would talk to them about it, but I had no idea why so many people liked that song so much but no other Smiths songs. Then I read this. Oh.

Saves the Day – See You

Saves the Day is fucking amazing. I can’t stress this enough. So instead of stressing it i’ll post the video for a completely different song:

Blink 182 – Feeling This

I realized on my birthday last Friday that I had received Dude Ranch as a gift on my 13th birthday. I have been listening to Blink for 13 years. That, to me, is crazy. I get more depressed than I care to admit over the fact that they broke in such a manner. That +44 song makes me a little bit sad. However, the fact that they released that song on Tom’s 30th birthday is sorta bad ass in a “hey, you’re a dick!” kinda way.

Taking Back Sunday – A Decade Under the Influence

I really liked this video when I first saw it. Like a lot. For no good reason either. Its really simple and plain, but for whatever reason I liked it. Then, the song got stuck in my head so I had to download it. It still gets stuck in my head:

The Smashing Pumpkins – Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

This is a reaaaallllly fucking good album.  But I’m pretty sur everyone already knows that.  For a while I used to go to sleep listening to the Smashing Pumpkins on shuffle.  I did this for like a month, and for as good as they are, I was fucking depressed.  I think it may have spawned the current pop-punk phase I am on right now.

The Blood Brothers – Wolf Party

The Blood Brothers are out of their god dammed minds, and it is fucking awesome.  Sophomore year I was listening to them at my desk.  My roommate came back and sat at his desk. He sat their for a minute listening to what I had on, turned and said “that is easily the craziest shit you have ever had on.”  It actually probably wasn’t, but there was a clear undertone to that statement.   That was “please turn that off before i kill you.”

Annoying Week

Its my week to do the really annoying, menial task at work (it has to get done every day, so we rotate it week by week).  That means for a good portion of the day i’m not at my computer.

This makes blogging more difficult.  I’ll hopefully have something for later, but until then, enjoy this:

I wish I could find it on youtube so I could embed it, but i can’t.  Either way, here’s a link for Weezer’s new video for Pork and Beans.

It references every viral video…ever.

Seriously.

They even have Tay Zonday, The Numa Numa Kid, Afro Ninja, the leave Britney alone dude, and a bunch of other actual viral video people in it.

It’s awesome!
